Make a short list of what changed
Has the bed settled? Are you changing crops? Did last season reveal a watering or drainage problem? Each answer points to a different action. An amendment may be part of the solution, but it should not be the automatic answer to every observation.
Prepare in a useful order
- Review the soil information and decide which changes are justified.
- Choose the base material if creating a new bed or container. Keep that purchase separate from a specialty amendment.
- Check conditions before working the soil. Oregon State notes that working wet soil can damage its structure.
- Record materials and amounts by bed, and keep that record for the next season.
Leave time for delivery
Soily dispatches in 3–5 business days. Then allow for carrier transit. If a planting project is already scheduled, compare that window with your deadline before buying. The goal is a usable soil plan with realistic timing, not an unopened bag that arrives after you needed it.
