Our premium worm castings blend combines vermicompost and biochar to amend the soil or growing mix you already use.

Product description

Worm castings + biochar, made with time and care. Soily is a premium vermicompost blend for gardeners amending houseplant mixes, containers and garden soil. We age compost made from manure, sawdust and wood chips for years, then finish it with worms, alfalfa meal and biochar. Each bag is filled from our finished pile as we prepare your order for dispatch.

Add it to your existing soil or growing mix. Soily is a soil amendment, not a complete potting mix or a replacement for every plant's fertilizer needs.

One blend. Three sizes: 2.5, 5 and 10 lb, sold by net weight.

What makes this the Soily blend?

Years in the making. Finished by worms.

  • Aged compost: manure blended with sawdust and aged wood chips, turned and aged for multiple years before becoming worm feed.
  • Selected ingredients: measured additions including alfalfa meal and biochar during the worm stage.
  • Planted beds: tens of thousands of worms raised in wedge beds with a three-seed cover mix.
  • Bagged for your order: we fill each bag directly from our finished pile as we prepare your order for dispatch, limiting the time the blend spends in its shipping bag.

No yard waste or food scraps. Vermicompost contains worm castings and other organic material worked by worms; our blend also includes biochar.

Follow the Soily process from compost pile to bag.

Choosing an application and caring for your blend

Start with your plant, growing mix and purpose. Houseplants, containers and garden beds have different needs; using this blend to amend soil is different from filling a pot or raised bed.

Explore our growing guides or ask us about your plant and project. Bag coverage depends on your application.

Worm compost is a biologically active material. Moisture, temperature and storage affect its microorganisms, so handling matters alongside the ingredients. Keep your bag cool and shaded, use it promptly, and avoid letting the material become bone dry.

How do worm castings and vermicompost fit together?

Worm castings are what worms excrete. Vermicompost is the harvested blend of castings and other decomposed organic matter. Soily includes biochar too. Add it to your existing soil or growing mix as a soil amendment.

How much does one bag cover?

It depends on your soil and how you apply it. Bags are sold by weight, so there is no single coverage figure for every use.

What makes it Soily?

Compost aged over multiple years. Measured worm feed with alfalfa meal and biochar. Planted red wiggler beds. Bagged per order directly from our finished pile as we prepare it for dispatch. No yard waste or food scraps.

Before you add something to your soil,

know what you're buying.

Meet Soily.

A vermicompost and biochar blend for houseplants, containers, and garden soil.

An amendment for the mix you already use.

Together in one bag, in the quantity that fits your project.

Our process starts with aged compost.

It's watered and turned.

This is real footage from that preparation.

Then the worms get to work.

You're seeing the worm stage of our process.

FROM BAG TO YOUR SOIL

Made to be added.

Add Soily as an amendment alongside a suitable growing medium. It is not a complete potting mix. Choose your application before choosing the amount.

One blend. Your choice of bag.

2.5 lb is our smallest bag. Choose 5 lb for more material, or 10 lb when your project calls for it. Each contains the same blend, sold by net weight.

A little clarity before you buy

Your soil.
Your starting point.

Start with what you need. We’ll help you understand where our blend fits.

Your category: soil amendment

Meet the blend made to be added.

Soily is a specialty vermicompost with biochar. It is an addition to a growing medium, rather than a complete potting mix.

The same blend comes in 2.5, 5 and 10 lb bags. The amount you need depends on the application—not simply the size of your garden.

Your category: a growing medium

Start with a suitable base.

To fill an entire pot or bed, start by choosing a growing medium suited to that use. Soily is an amendment, so a bag is not a direct substitute for that full volume.

Net weight is not volume. We do not convert pounds into pots or square feet without an application rate and a measured product density.

Your category: understand the ingredients

Vermicompost, with biochar.

Our worms process aged compost with selected feed additions, including biochar. We describe the finished product as specialty vermicompost with biochar, not as 100% pure worm castings.

If your recipe calls specifically for pure castings, account for that difference before choosing your amendment.

Well-fed worms. Thoughtfully tended beds.

Good things

Our wedge beds are home to tens of thousands of worms beneath a three-seed cover mix. They receive finished compost aged over multiple years, with measured additions of alfalfa meal and biochar.
